Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O'Neill, is the father of Claire and Mitchell. Jay has married a much younger, very attractive, Colombian women, by the name of Gloria. Gloria has a fourteen year old son, Manny, making Jay a stepfather, and also recently a father to his own child, Fulgencio. Jay is often very concerned about the popularity of his stepson at school, and about what others think of his family. Several times throughout the series, Jay finds himself frustrated or annoyed at many circumstances or situations, especially involving his family. |

Gloria, played by Sofia Vergara, is a very young and attractive woman from Colombia, who is very passionate about her heritage. Gloria has a son Manny, and recently had another baby, Fulgencio, with her current husband Jay. Gloria is never afraid to speak what's on her mind, and not very concerned about other's opinion of her or her family. Much unlike Jay, Gloria is always encouraging her son Manny to follow his dreams and reminds him everyday how great he is, just the way he is. |

Manny, played by Rico Rodriguez, is the son of Gloria and stepson of Jay. Manny is often trying different techniques to attract older girls. He has little self-consciousness and has several of his mothers qualities of passion that portray throughout his character. Manny is very mature for his age and often, Jay likes to joke that Manny was born a sixteen year old. |

Claire Dunphy, played by Julie Bowen, is the daughter of Jay Pritchett. She is married to Phil Dunphy, and a mother to three very unique and individual children. Claire is a stay at home mom, constantly taking care of her children and husband. Claire is very concerned with her community, and even tries running for town council for her voice to be heard. |

Phil Dunphy, played by Ty Burrell, is a loving husband and father to three. Phil is a real estate agent by day, and a "cool dad" by night. Phil is always trying to hang out with his kids, as a friend, not a father, a technique he likes to call "peerenting." Phil is also known for his not-so-secret obsession with his father in laws wife, Gloria. It is because of this and several other reasons that Phil feels he and Jay don't get along as well as he wishes. |

Haley Dunphy, played by Sarah Hyland, is a very sassy, ditzy, teenage girl. She is often the trouble maker of the family, causing Phil and Claire lots of stress. Haley is also very hard on her little sister, who Haley thinks is a nerd. She is constantly trying to teach her ways to be popular, like her, or things not to do. |

Alex Dunphy, played by Ariel Winter, is the very intelligent middle child. Alex is constantly being picked on by older sister Haley for being too nerdy. Alex is a very smart student, and even her parents worry for her that she is too focused on school and doesn't have a social life. |

Luke Dunphy, played by Nolan Gould, is the youngest of three children, and the only boy. Luke loves to hang out with his "cool dad" and aspires to be just like his father someday. Luke is a very crazy character, often doing absurd things, that just make him Luke. |

Mitchell Pritchett, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, is the son of Jay Pritchett and brother to Claire Dunphy. Mitchell is a lawyer and lives with his partner Cameron, and their adopted Vietnamese daughter Lily. Much unlike his partner Cam, Mitchell is always worrying about things, especially in regards to Cam and Lily. Mitchell has a very serious personality and is still uncomfortable talking openly with his dad about being gay. |

Cameron Tucker, played by Eric Stonestreet, is the very playful and loving partner to Mitchell Pritchett. Cam is a fun loving father to adopted daughter Lily, and enjoys silly days spent with her cooking, playing, and dressing up. Cam had previously been in a clown act, with the stage name of Fizbo, but when he met Mitchell he gave up the act and committed his time to his partner. Although that act is over, Cam still enjoys dressing up and acting, and takes any chance he can find to participate in a drama. |

Lily Tucker-Pritchett, played by Aubrey Anderson- Emmons, was from Vietnam and adopted by her loving fathers Cam and Mitchell. As she made her debut on the show, her first baby word was "mommy" which obviously didn't please her gay fathers. However, as Lily has grown throughout the show, she is now quite talkative and always has something clever to say at just the right time. Recently, talk of a new baby brother has her upset, as she tells her fathers, "I hate the baby." |
